I m transitioning from Neuro ICU to Psych. I have my first job working nights coming up soon. So I am hoping I will like the transition. I am also interested in mental health for ever… I love both critical care and mental health. It’s hard to choose one.

In Australia you need to first be an RN and then gather 4 years full time experience in your specialty (2 of which has to be an advanced role). Then you qualify to enrol into NP school. Here we only have about 2200 NPs nation wide!

I'll be doing Psych NP bc I will play that game and then open my own practice to actually help people who have been duped by this sick Pharma system and assist them with tapering off SSRI's & benzos :)

You're a Psych NP, but can't use the English language correctly? Lovely.....

I think it is not right for these schools to let in students who do not have any experience as a Psyvh RN! My school required it, but it was a long time ago so I don’t remember the number of years required. Employers are telling the new grads to go be a Psych RN for a few years! As for the money- some of the RNs on our unit make more or about the same as I do. They get holiday and overtime pay. I’m salary. However, I love my job. I feel I make an impact and do have autonomy and flexibility. I’ve been PMHNP for over 11 years and just wish I had done it sooner! There are many PMHNPs but due to many being new grads there are so many jobs out there! I get info every day- calls, emails, texts, etc. I think we are finally proving our worth that employers see the benefit and hiring more of us. 😊. Hopefully they will start paying us appropriately for all the work we do.

I love being a PMHNP but burn out is prevalent if you do not have the adequate resources. I do not have therapy to support my patient panel. I am expected to see a certain amount of patients per day. We are not allowed to charge for therapy, only medication management.

Thanks for the insight. I’m finishing up my BSN in a few months and plan to work in psych and ER. Do you think it’s worth doing a BSN-DNP later down the line? Or get my masters in a few years? I’m not sure what route to take

kind of doing a disservice to the profession pitching the fact that you can "work from home". Diploma mills are pumping out money hungry, green providers that are thinking it's a get rich quick, start a private practice, work from home profession. Most of them don't know WTF they're doing.

I am in a dual FNP/PMHNP program. I am planning on doing a dual private practice with 3 days a week, focused on Mental Health and 2 Days for Family Practice. Are you going to talk about billing and insurance?

The nursing field will make a correction, just like they did for the physicians. Doctorates degrees will become mandatory, the board will force universities to require 1 to 2 years experience as a nurse before beoming an NP, etc.
